Bio Statement

Dr. Vince Schmidt received his PhD in Computer Engineering from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He is currently a senior research computer engineer working for the United States Air Force at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. His research interests include artificial intelligence, parallel and distributed computing, neurocomputing, and software engineering development and quality issues. Dr. Schmidt has nearly four decades of professional system and software development experience.

Dr. Schmidt is a Research Computer Engineer in the Human Effectiveness Directorate of the United States Air Force Research Laboratory, currently concentrating on multiple facets of machine learning and information representation to enable rapid decision-making. He has an extensive background in parallel and distributed computing, real-time and industrial control, and artificial intelligence. He is an avid amateur astronomer, and is frustrated with the amount of time he spends merely collecting astronomy gear versus actually observing with it, since he lives in Ohio where the skies are frequently not cooperative.
